Read the gaps

About 5 minutes

Act on the two lists that cost money: promises with no work started, and work that shipped without anyone telling the customer.

Transcript, 30 seconds

Gaps holds the two lists that cost you money.

Promised and not started: open promises with no work linked.

Assign an owner, link the pull request, or move the date.

Shipped and not told: work merged and the customer has not heard.

Draft the email, or mark it told, and the row leaves the list.

Captions on by default. Made from this page’s steps, with demo data only.

Before you start

  • Kept promises on the ledger
  • A connected tracker, so shipped work is known

Steps

  1. Read the first list. Promised and not started holds every open promise with no work linked, with the deal amount it holds up.
  2. Assign or link. Open the row's menu. Press Assign to give it an owner, Link to attach a pull request or issue, or Move the date with a reason.
  3. Read the second list. Shipped and not told holds promises whose work merged while the customer has not heard. Press Draft the email to write the news.
  4. Mark as told. If you told them another way, press Mark as told, choose How and When, then Mark. Where we found a likely telling, press Yes, told or Not that one.

What success looks like

  • Every row in the first list has an owner or linked work
  • A told row leaves the second list

Troubleshooting

The heading is less than the two lists added up
Money above a list counts each open deal once, and only where a blocking promise blocks it. A row shows every open deal on that promise, for reading.
A shipped promise is not in the second list
Every piece of work behind it must have merged or closed. Open the promise and check its Work panel.
