Connect Gmail or Outlook
Give CommitOps read access to one mailbox and its calendar, see exactly what it reads, and know what disconnecting deletes.
Transcript, 30 seconds
Connect one mailbox and its calendar, read-only.
Open Connect from the account menu and press Connect beside Gmail or Outlook.
We read 90 days of threads with someone outside your company on them.
Internal mail, attachments, drafts and spam are never read, and we never send mail.
Disconnect any time, and everything that source gave us is deleted.
Before you start
- A Google Workspace or Microsoft 365 account you send customer mail from
- Your company's domains listed under Workspace settings
Steps
- Open Connect. Open the account menu at the bottom of the sidebar and choose Connect. Every source on the page says what it reads and what it never reads.
- Connect the mailbox. Press Connect beside Read Gmail or Read Outlook mail and approve the consent screen. Each permission is its own consent screen, so you grant only what you choose.
- Connect the calendar. Press Connect beside Read Google Calendar or Read Microsoft Calendar. We read meeting times and attendees, never titles or descriptions.
- Watch the first read. The row shows first read in progress while we read the last 90 days. After that, only what is new, every 15 minutes. Press Sync now to read at once.
- Disconnect when you want. Press Disconnect to see a count of everything the source gave us, then Disconnect and delete. Quotes from that source are deleted; the record of each decision stays.
What success looks like
- The mailbox row shows synced with a time, not waiting for first sync
- The page header counts the source as connected and says all read-only
- Candidates start to arrive in the inbox
Troubleshooting
- Gmail asks you to connect again after a week
- Until Google finishes its review of our access, Gmail test users connect again every 7 days. Press Reconnect on the row.
- Microsoft says an admin must approve
- Some Microsoft 365 companies require an admin to approve an app once. Ask your admin to approve CommitOps, then press Connect again.
- Internal threads are missing
- That is on purpose. A thread with only your own domains on it is judged on its headers and never opened.
